Journalist and editor from the UK
Over the Easter break, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do work experience at three fantastic newspapers: the Coventry Telegraph, the Times and the Guardian.
Here I am going to write a little about my experiences to give a brief overview of what I learned from the three weeks, if you’re interested – and of course, in case you’re considering applying to any of them!
So I wasn’t going to do one of these this year, because I’ve been so busy with work experience this week. However, after popular demand (I’m not even joking!) I have decided to do a brief post on my favourite April Fool’s Day jokes of 2014. Sorry it’s a little late, but enjoy!
On Thursday evening, I was lucky enough to receive an invitation (thanks, Jo!) to the launch night of Turtle Bay, a new Caribbean restaurant in Leamington Spa.

Students who got lost for charity on February 22 and 23 have raised more than £4,000 for the Bath Place Community Venture in Leamington Spa.
Participants of the University of Warwick’s new event, Lost, were sponsored by friends and family to take a coach to an unknown location and had 36 hours to get back to University campus with no money.

So if you’re a bit of a politico, keen on campus issues or just a genuinely nosey person, I’m guessing you pick up your student newspaper, or at least check out what is on its website every now and then. But do you ever wonder about the processes the publication actually goes through before it reaches your hands?
So I’m going to tell the truth about student journalism. From my experience, anyway.

Societies at the University of Warwick have launched a brand-new event called Lost to raise money for a local charity.
Students will be sponsored by friends and relatives to take a coach to a random, unknown location and will attempt to get back to University campus within 36 hours.
The catch is, they cannot spend any money on their journey, and have to rely on methods of hitchhiking and asking for free transport in order to get home.
So, at 10am on November 2 until 10pm on November 3, George Creasy and I had a challenge – to travel as far away from Warwick University campus as possible within 36 hours without spending a penny, in aid of AICR (the Association for International Cancer Research).
And guess what? The Baker Breakers have officially jailbroken. We made it all the way to Poland!
